Are you starting a job at a facility that requires nurses to perform blood draws?
Are you a nurse caring for COVID-19 patients and having to learn how to draw blood for the first time?
Do you simply want to improve your practice and increase your knowledge of venipuncture and phlebotomy?
Many hospitals are starting to rely on nurses for blood draws instead of lab techs and phlebotomists. Many other facilities are adopting policies that require nurses to do all their own lab draws when caring for COVID-19 patients.
This puts a lot of extra stress on already busy nurses and can be a real challenge to figure out on your own while juggling a heavy patient assignment. Without proper training, your chances of hurting yourself or a patient are very high. No one wants a needle-stick injury, and no nurse wants to cause harm to their patient.
Unfortunately nursing schools very rarely teach their students how to perform a simple venipuncture, almost never cover the correct order of draw, how to properly draw blood cultures, or even the steps on how to draw blood from a central line. Most facilities expect you to have already learned these things in nursing school, and often have vague, unhelpful policies regarding drawing blood.
This video course will walk you through every step of drawing blood, from the very basics like order of draw, aseptic technique, venipuncture techniques and blood cultures, to drawing blood on difficult patient populations and central line draws. You'll learn how to choose a vein, how to hold the various types of needle sets, how to activate the safety in the safest ways possible, and much much more!
I created this course using knowledge and experience from 8 years working as a phlebotomist, and over 10 years teaching phlebotomy and venipuncture technique. I structured the content with busy nurses in mind, and tried to condense the material in order to teach in the most time-efficient way possible.
The course comes with 2 CEUs and a certificate of completion (which makes it eligible for reimbursement from your employer in many cases). Once you sign up, you'll have lifetime access to the course, including any material that I add or update.
Each lecture is accompanied by high quality images and HD video so you can see exactly what's happening, a transcription if you prefer to read the material, and you'll get a look inside a vein using my clear gelatin vein models.
The course also contains dozens of full-length demonstration videos using different methods, vein locations, and skin coloration on varying types of patients.
BONUS!
I started a private Facebook group for everyone who signs up for the course. This is where you can ask me questions and we can discuss everything venipuncture related! I try to check in at least once per day so I can personally help you with whatever problem you might be encountering. My goal is to help you become proficient drawing blood, whatever that might take!
