Ready to up your IV game and jump into the world of ultrasound-guided IV insertion? Then this is the course for you!
This fully comprehensive video course covers everything you need to know in order to successfully insert IVs under ultrasound guidance: relevant human anatomy, types of ultrasound machines and how to set them up, aseptic technique, differentiating arteries, nerves, and veins, basic and advanced insertion techniques, pain management, and much more!
Ultrasound is a far superior method to palpation as you can fully visualize structures within the tissue. This means you can effectively guide your needle into the vein while avoiding arteries, nerves, and other undesirable anatomy. Many studies have shown that first attempt success rates are significantly higher with ultrasound guidance (anywhere from 80%-100%) as compared with traditional palpation (anywhere from 40%-60%). This can help reduce anxiety not only for the patient, but for the practitioner as well, especially when paired with proper pain reduction techniques like topical or injectable lidocaine.
While I am more than proficient in this skill, I hired a true expert to help write and film the course. Her name is Rene Maslow (MSN, RN, VA-BC) and she's been a vascular access nurse since 2003, has created multiple training programs for local facilities here in California, was president of the Bay Area Vascular Access Association, and has helped write standards of practice for vascular access. She's AMAZING. Her demonstrations and explanations of procedures are part of what makes this course so great.
